Backyard Camp out

Saturday night we had a backyard camp out. Aaron needed to do this for some of his scouting requirements. The boys set up the tent and made a fire in the fire bowl. The kids had some of their friends over and we made s'mores. It was fun sitting around the camp fire with the tent in the back ground. I tried to get a round of Kum Ba Ya started but nobody was interested in singing. We went into the tent around 11:00 p.m. Only Todd, Aaron and I would brave sleeping in there. I could not find the pump to the air mattress so I had only an egg crate under me and I forgot the most important rule of camping...the sleeping pills. We were bundled up with several layers, hats, jackets with hoods and gloves. The overnight low was around 45 degrees. I fell asleep pretty good but only made it until 1:40 a.m. I laid there for a long time...wondering what I was doing out there on the cold, hard ground. I drifted off a little while later and dreamed it was snowing and I was trying to gather up my things and the slider was open and by the time I got in there, the house was filled with snow too. I woke up from that frosty dream to see it was only about 3:40 a.m. I decided I had enough fun and games for one night and went inside and got into my bed. The boys made it until 6:00 a.m. before they came in. This experience provided a critical reminder to me that when we go camping to the Grand Canyon in May, not to forget the air mattress or the sleeping pills.
